Happy AMERICAN HOLIDAY everyone! This weekend the site has been feeling a bit empty but with good reason! We’re really busy trying to bring you even better material. Arien and Brian hit up Anime North for three days this weekend to bring you video coverage of the event and we’ve also been working our asses off on some new original material we think will be very important to you gamers out there.
Speaking of gaming, this week’s podcast is a good one! We have our first REAL guest in GNSU history. Angry Banana’s head honcho Carlos Lopez stops by to discuss the Street Fighter scene both in LA and worldwide as well as a variety of other topics. As usual things get a bit ridiculous but we wouldn’t be us if we didn’t. Check it out on Wednesday and have a good one.
DISCLAIMER: This post is not for Brian, Angel, Arien or Sarah because they are dirty foreigners. GOD BLESS AMERICA.
No doubt dozens of PS3 gamers are moderately excited over news that Sony’s social disappointment Home finally coming out of beta. Contrary to popular belief that Home is a waste of time, Veemee’s own Kirk Ewing has come to the game’s defense, stating “Most people think that Home is shit. I’m here to say that it’s not.” This comment has firmly put the gaming public in its place as they realize they were in fact wrong this whole time. Veemee is the developer that has created a large range of content on Home and is likely not happy with the reaction it has received from the gaming community.
Erwing would go on further to defend it by stating that, “One in three owners use Home. There are 1.7 million repeat users each using Home for around 53 minutes on average.” He of course neglected to mention if the 53 minutes averaged over a week, month, or lifetime. If PS3 users are averaging under an hour playing altogether before dropping the control, it’s pretty clearly an abject failure.
There’s no word if the official release will include actual activities for bored residents to participate in.

Gameranx has put up some fresh-off-the-press screens from Capcom’s upcoming “Marvel vs. Capcom 3.”
The highly anticipated game is the next in line for the arcade fighter series. I have fond memories of discovering and playing the hell out of the second game in the series whenever I’d get a chance to visit an arcade, which was unfortunately rare. I was never one to learn the combos and intricacies of the break-neck speed game (I never really picked up on learning fighting games until Soul Calibur 2, to be honest) but let’s be real for a second, the game was still fun regardless of what you knew. Where else could you see Megaman teaming up with Venom and Blackheart in a free for all battle against a Sentinel, Wolverine and Ryu? I don’t know anything about tiers but that is a hilariously awesome matchup right there button mashing or not.
The only other place you might see it, in fact, is on deviantart but we’re going to let you discover that for yourselves.
The only thing we could hope for in the future is an even more expansive fighting series… like Mugen but official basically. One can dream I suppose…
Years after release they’re still adding little touches to make their popular titles even better. While they might be minor changes it still says a lot about Valve’s dedication to the people who matter most – the fans. Aside from releasing Half Life 2 on the Mac platform a number of other changes have been made including:
-Achievements added to HL2
-Improved graphics in HL2 + HL2:Episode 1
-Some other things!
This is one of many things Valve has done to show how much they actually care, and to be honest the little things matter. For instance: see here. We’ve had our own experiences with Valve, even. When GNSU made a Team Fortress 2 munny we sent the images off to Gabe and Robin Walker who both answered the e-mail personally to comment that they enjoyed it.
While this post was meant to simply report on the HL2 update I did have to put it out there that Valve is pretty goddamn awesome.
According to Joystiq Fox will be airing a 30 minute machinima film using the game alone to produce all visuals. An interesting move from both Fox and Rockstar.
The whole things seems kind of strange, honestly – but I guess no gimmick is beyond FOX. I’m not opposed to machinima or anything. The long running “Gordon Freeman’s Mind” series is an absolutely hilarious series that deserves a lot more attention than it gets. It’s just out of left field since machinima on TV is nonexistent outside of awful gamestop commercials about trading in used games.
Curiously one has to wonder where this falls in Ebert’s tirades on games as art. The merging of media and mainstream appeal of games these days has often led to horrible abominations of games to movies, movies to games, and now possibly games literally as movies. Arien previously mentioned the Heavy Rain movie in the works. The idea of translating a game that was meant to be an emotional movie like experience into a straight up movie is kind of sketchy. It’s only a matter of time before the likes of Uwe Boll turns the 8-bit Human Centipede game into a movie bringing this horrible media frankenstein full circle creating the first movie based on a game base on a movie.
Good News Shut Up Podcast #2 is here! Click the image above or the blatantly obvious link in this post to hear it! This week we’re discussing Red Dead Redemption, realism and physics in video games, and as always… what we’ve been playing. Arien also describes in great detail a video he found that is near and dear to us… you’ll just have to listen to find out.
It’s also worth mentioning that despite the TOTALLY ALLURING fan art above, we do not discuss anime this week. Stick around for more news and keep your eyes peeled because we have some great stuff on the way including reports from Anime North, a podcast with our first ever REAL GUEST, and a FEATURE ARTICLE on what gaming fuel is best for you!
Everyone’s favorite PS3 cutscene marathon is now in the works to become a movie. Gamers who have endured the 12 hour FMV will be elated to know that soon they will be able to experience the world of Heavy Rain once again, condensed into a 2 hour film. Unique Features production company owned by Robert Shaye and Michael Lynne, is the company looking to pick up the rights to this. The two producers have a long list of movies between them including The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Nightmare on Elm St series, and the Golden Compass. As this is a video game based movie though, this project is not expected to do remotely as well.
Kotaku has an interesting piece up informing Rock Band enthusiasts that there will be another instrument on the way.
Apparently when you wrap up the Rock Band: Green Day demo you are greeted with a screen featuring the classic rock band instrument icons (including the much lauded harmony microphones added in Beatles Rockband)… with the addition of keys.
This should make playing synths and other instruments on guitar a little less… strange.
Our own Brian Frobel was quite excited by the news and even more relieved he didn’t have to play the Green Day demo to find this information out. Meanwhile Angel is fairly furious about the idea of Billy Joel being in the game more. Angel fucking hates Billy Joel.
I’m personally wondering when there will be a Rock Band David Bowie. Come on!

Looks like a brave man has pioneered an 8 Bit game allowing you to experience the journey that is The Human Centipede.
The Human Centipede is a horror flick from 2009 that caused a bit of a stir due to the graphic premise. I don’t want to ruin any of the fun for you and I think Arien would kill me if I did, but if you are among the uninitiated please click the above link to wikipedia or watch the trailer below.
