Flickr user mad5l5in5 went on a little trip around Toronto to snap photos of locations in the Scott Pilgrim series. It’s pretty evident that at GNSU we love us some Scott Pilgrim so this is a really awesome idea. I already bugged Brian and Arien about taking trips to some of these places when I head up North later this summer to visit so this has me extra excited. Click the image above to take the Scott Pilgrimage photo tour. Some thoughts and more photos after the jump.
It’s pretty awesome to see how well Bryan Lee O’Malley paid homage to various locations in Toronto in his well loved series. I mean look at that scary little bastard of a clock to the left! My initial reaction to the clock scene in Scott Pilgrim was “Evil Dead reference! Ha ha!” but it turns out the joke was more layered than I thought.
This sort of detail is what makes the books so goddamn awesome. Sure it’s full of references to our favorite video games of old, and has all kinds of geek culture, but O’Malley takes it a step further and really personalizes it. Maybe it’s that personal touch he contributes to the series that makes it so easy to relate to. There’s certainly something more there than geek jokes and video game-esque battles.
I’m sure book 6 (which comes out this month on the 20th!) will feature similar locations (as well as some old ones) – but it makes me wonder if the movie will follow suite. I do recall them filming in Toronto at some point so hopefully they worked the same locations into the book. We’ll find out when the movie hits theaters this August!
On a semi-related note, show mad5l5in5 some love and check out their etsy shop “C’mon Jetpacks” – there’s some nerd related goodies in there!

Thriving, they spur on to be taught that filing lawsuits is not the on nigh to cease piracy. A substitute alternatively, it’s to pass an offer looking for something relaxation than piracy. If that happens, then there intent be no stopping piracy. But they’re too circumspect and jumpy of losing. Risks trim up to be bewitched!
