Sometimes good games go bad. No, not in a Will Smith “bad means good” kind of way. We mean they suck. In this week’s podcast the GNSU Crew has a round table discussion about some pretty awful entries in popular franchises. Three words: Mario’s Time Machine. Need we say more?
We also give our thoughts on the new TF2 update and Crackdown 2′s multiplayer components.

Nintendo is apparently beefing up anti-piracy measures with their upcoming hand held behemoth: the 3DS. The VP of THQ’s Global Publishing said: “The problem with the DS market in the last few years, particularly with the DS Lite, is that it’s just been attacked by piracy. It’s made it almost impossible to shift any significant volume. The DSi combated it a little bit, but the 3DS has taken that a step further. What excites me even more (than 3DS games) is that there’s technology built in that device to really combat piracy.”
Who knew how relevant this gif would end up being?
This post on XugoGaming.com mentions that Iwata wants to draw in serious gamers with the 3DS. This is a very interesting statement coming from a company that has catered to a casual crowd in recent years in both the DS and the Nintendo Wii.
He is probably confusing "cake" with "cocaine" again...
Today marks Sonic The Hedgehog’s 19th birthday and for what it’s worth there are some Sonic related sales going on. For those somehow not in the know, Sonic was the star of a series of pretty badass highspeed sidescrolling platform games now comfortably retired to a world of 3D bullshit. [More after the jump]
Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo came and gave it their all but there was only one true standout winner…
E3 2010 is over and we’re here to offer our thoughts on what went down this year from the good to the bad to the ugly – there is also a fair amount of discussion regarding Shaun White’s hair but that’s besides the point.
Let’s take a brief break from E3 – shall we? I came into work today and sat down to go about my day with my iPod on shuffle to keep me from bludgeoning myself with a stapler when this gem came on:
…a song from the SMASH 90′s hit family sitcom “Dinosaurs” it was none other than Baby Sinclair singing “I’m the baby, gotta love me…” etc.
How would something like this happen you ask? Simple.
This is it, guys – the big gaming event of the year running from the 15th to the 17th. While E3 is always an exciting event I feel like this year is going to be a big one. There’s a lot of new technology being shown off between Microsoft and Sony’s motion control devices and Nintendo’s next DS incarnation. There will be some big name games on display like the new Zelda title and Portal 2, and much more.
Things are actually already under way in some respects. Nintendo has revealed details on their upcoming Zelda game simply titled “The Legend of Zelda” – set long before The Ocarina of Time. Microsoft has announced a change in name for their controller-less motion gimmick from “Natal” to “Kinect” – a name which makes sense in theory but in practice kind of sucks. Though, given the way it is looking it’s probably suitable. See and judge for yourself:
I’m personally excited for more footage from the upcoming Scott Pilgrim title. Footage was recently released of the 4 player co-op sides crolling beat ‘em up extravaganza. The visuals are amazing, the music is fantastic, so my fingers are crossed on the game playing living up to the rest of what we’ve seen.
And speaking of multiplayer goodness I am also hoping for a good showing from Behemoth on their next multiplayer title. Previously titled “Game #3″ the anticipated “BattleBlock Theater” will most likely be shown off in more polished form this year.
Aside from all of these titles there is so much more to come in the next week – it’s going to be a killer show with a ton of surprises including an announced surprise from Valve which many are speculating to be Source Engine 2.

Want to brush up on some literary classics instead of kicking your friend’s ass in Mario Kart? With “100 Classic Books” you can… if you want to. The game cartridge comes jam packed with 100 titles including a host of big name books from “Alice in Wonderland” and “Dracula” to “A Christmas Carol” and “Anna Karenina” (as well as others like Jane Austen or Sherlock Holmes stories), with the option to download an additional 10 books free of charge via Wifi.
At $19.99 this is a pretty solid offer and an interesting move on Nintendo’s part to keep up with the handheld market. The DS has evolved over the years into a multimedia device to stay in shape. This title might not feel as comfortable on the smaller screens of older DS devices – however it should be just fine with newer models. That said, I still feel like the DS is not up to par in terms of multimedia capabilities. The DSi and onward have online features, cameras, an online store but it doesn’t stack up in those aspects against the iPhone or PSP which seem to handle the non-gaming entertainment (music, videos, internet browsing, messaging and so on) much better. It is nice to see Nintendo progressing into this world but it has always been behind the times on this- for example the Wii’s online interface is pretty horrendous compared to what Sony and Microsoft offer in this capacity. They have smoothly integrated these features into their consoles or hand held devices. Perhaps Nintendo could pick up the pace with the new “3Ds” that’s on the way. All things considered however, the DS series serves its main purpose quite well, maybe better than its competition, and that’s just fine with us and in the end it does edge out the other devices for reading purposes, it does have a book-like physical interface. It’s no kindle but it’s certainly an option.
